| Facts you should know about the North Bay Youth Justice Committee Program – YJCP |
|
- Community diversion program for youth 12-17 who commit minor offences
- Overseen by a progressive steering committee comprised of dedicated community partners
- Community volunteers trained to facilitate youth conferences
- Available to all police services in the District of Nipissing
- Accept pre and post charge referrals from Police, Crown or Probation Officers
- Face to face dialogue between victim, offender and community volunteers
- Client-centered approach used to determine measures and sanctions assigned to youth
- Youth must consent to the referral
- Youth can be referred to diversion more than once
- Criteria for youth referral does not require the victim’s consent
- Youth record does not preclude a youth from being accepted in a pre-charge or post-charge program
- Follow-up results are provided to referral sources
